American Appetizer Beef Cheddar Cheese Entertaining Entree Grill Hors d'Oeuvres Kid Kitchen Quick Kitchen Snack Summer Kitchen

Makes 12 Sliders
Cooking Time: 25 minutes

1 pound ground beef chuck (95 percent lean)
Coarse salt and ground pepper
12 small chunks American or cheddar cheese (about 1/2-inch cube)
12 small dinner rolls
12 dill or sweet pickle chips
Optional – catsup for topping

Organize your ingredients. Divide the meat into 12 balls of equal size.

Place a ball of cheese down into the center and push the side up to completely cover the cheese.  Working with one at a time and using the palm of your hand, lightly press each ball down, taking care that the cheese stays covered by the meat.  Season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.

Preheat a stovetop grill pan or the broiler.

Place the patties on the hot pan (or under the hot broiler) and cook, turning once, for about 5 minutes or until the meat is cooked through and the cheese has begun to melt.

Place each meat patty on a toasted roll, add a dollop of catsup, and a pickle slice and serve.
